For the woman who has been hiding the parts of her story she thinks disqualify her.
There is a version of your testimony you have rehearsed.
The clean one. The one that starts at the breakthrough and skips straight to the glory. The one that lets people see where you ended up without having to sit too long in where you came from.
You know exactly which parts you leave out.
The season that still makes you cringe when you think about it. The decision you made when you knew better. The chapter that does not fit neatly into the narrative you are trying to build.
So you minimize it. You edit it. You carry it quietly and hope no one looks too close.
Sis, I need you to hear something today.
God did not skip those chapters. And He is not asking you to either.
Shame Is Not the Same as Discretion
There is a difference between wisely choosing what to share and quietly disappearing under the weight of what you are ashamed of.
Discretion says: not every space is the right space for every part of my story.
Shame says: that part of my story means I am disqualified.
Shame keeps you hidden. Not because no one can see you. But because what they see is a performance of you. The managed version. The approved version. The version that has carefully cut out every scene that felt too messy, too real, too human.
And the woman hiding behind that performance? She is exhausted.
Your Story Was Authored by God
Here is what I know to be true.
Romans 8:28 does not say God works through the good parts of your story. It says all things work together for good. All of it. Every chapter. Every season. Every decision you wish you could take back.
God has not been surprised by a single page of your life.
He was there in the chapter you are most ashamed of. He was there when you made the wrong call. He was there when it fell apart. He was there when you picked yourself up again.
And He is still there now.
The very experiences you have been working so hard to hide may be the very things God intends to use most powerfully. Not in spite of what happened. Through it.
Your story is not your liability. In God’s hands, it is your platform.
Honoring Your Story Does Not Mean Oversharing It
I want to be clear about something because I know how this can land.
Honoring your whole story is not the same as broadcasting every painful detail to every room you walk into. You are not required to perform your wound in order to prove you have healed from it.
Honoring your story means this:
You stop letting shame have the final word. You stop treating your past like evidence of your unworthiness. You stop editing yourself so aggressively that the real you never gets to show up.
It means you can sit with someone who is in the middle of a season that looks a lot like yours and say honestly: I have been there. And God met me there. And He will meet you there too.
That is not weakness. That is ministry.
What Are You Still Hiding?
I want to ask you something and I want you to sit with it honestly.
What part of your story have you been minimizing, hiding, or carrying in shame?
What chapter do you skip when you tell people about yourself?
What would change if you stopped letting that chapter define you and started letting God redeem it?
You do not have to answer out loud. Not yet. But you have to answer honestly.
Because the Bold Becomer God is calling you to become cannot fully step forward while she is spending half her energy hiding where she has been.
You Were Made to Shine. All of You.
Not the cleaned-up version. Not the highlight reel. Not the parts of you that already feel presentable and polished.
All of you.
The woman you are right now, in this season, with this history, carrying these stories, is the woman God is working with. She is not a draft. She is not a mistake. She is not waiting to be worthy enough to show up.
She is already enough. And her shine is necessary.
